Laparoscopy-- Operative procedure performed in the operating room under general
anesthesia. Allows the patient a quicker recovery time that a more traditional laparotomy. This is because
of smaller incisions. Most Laparoscopic procedures are now performed as out-patient procedures.
Essure hysteroscopic tubal occlusion procedure-A nonincisional surgical procedure that involves
placing a small flexible micro-insert into the fallopian tubes. The micro-inserts are made from polyester
fibers and metals(nickel and titanium and stainless steel). These materials have been studied and used
in the heart and other parts of the human body for years. Once in place the body tissue grows into the
micro-inserts over a three month period of time, blocking the fallopian tubes. This blockage prevents
sperm from reaching and fertilizing an egg, thereby preventing a pregnancy. This is an outpatient same
day procedure without incisions or scarring. Most women return to work or normal activity the next day.
